HEALTH CARE AIDE PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Here at Training Inc., we specialize in delivering a hands-on, interactive HCA program. This 20-week (5 month) Health Care Aide Government of Alberta Provincial Curriculum certificate prepares you to work in a variety of settings providing health services and direct care and support to individuals.

This program consists of classroom learning, lab practice, instructor-led facility training, and two preceptored clinical experiences (1-month in a long term care facility/hospital and 1-week in a lodge/homecare).

Students who complete the Health Care Aide Government of Alberta Provincial Curriculum Certificate at Training Inc. will also receive five additional certifications: Medication Assistance Course (materials developed by Alberta Health Services), Supportive Pathways, Emergency First Aid Level A CPR/AED, WHMIS, and Fire Suppression.

Q: Is this Program Recognized and Certified Provincially?

A: Yes. Training Inc. delivers the provincial curriculum (it is called the “Health Care Aide Government of Alberta Provincial Curriculum”) set out by the Minister of Alberta Health and Wellness. Training Inc. is an accredited private post-secondary institution, and we are licensed to deliver the HCA program through the Ministry of Alberta Advanced Education. We have over 30 facility practicum partners in Southern Alberta, and we have been successfully delivering the Health Care Aide program for over 20 years.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Students wishing to enter the HCA program must first book an appointment with an Intake Advisor. Intake Advisors will assist students in obtaining documents required for entrance. Please book this appointment early to allow time for assessments and entrance documents to arrive before the start date.

Requirements include:

  • An understanding of the career and industry, by completing a career investigation report.
  • Grade 10 Level English, or equivalency as determined by a Training Inc. entrance exam.
  • A clear Criminal Record Check with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination and a recent/clear Tuberculosis Test (Mantoux Skin Test). Additional immunizations may be required depending on the student’s specific facility/practicum placement(s).

Certification

Training Inc. will issue the Health Care Aide - Government of Alberta Provincial Curriculum Certificate upon completion and graduation of the program.  Minimum passing grade of 70% is required. 

Training Inc. delivers the Health Care Aide Government of Alberta Provincial Curriculum program as set out by the Minister of Alberta Health and Wellness. This program is licensed by the Private Career Colleges Branch through the Ministry of Alberta Advanced Education.
