This 8 hour course is intended for all workers in the petroleum industry who could be exposed to hydrogen sulphide (H2S), commonly known as sour gas. The primary focus is to provide generic H2S program content to help workers work safely in and around H2S environments. The program covers the physical properties and health hazards of H2S, how to protect oneself and basic rescue techniques. Each student is required to operate a self-contained breathing apparatus, and conduct rescue lift and drag exercises.
All participants are required to be clean shaven to ensure negative pressure tests during practical exam. It is encouraged that those with long hair wear a pony tail or a braid. Re-Certification or Challenge is no longer available with this program. Participants must complete the full day training every 3 years.

Objectives are tested by written competency exam and a practical exam performed with the appropriate PPE. Participants must obtain 80% passing grade on a closed book exam. Temporary certificate is valid for 90 days; permanent certificates valid for 3 years. Certificates are issued by ENFORM.
